Students Tour Ringer Windows
Ringer Windows Welcomes Hendrickson H.S. Students
The Group First Learned About Window Manufacturing
Greg Ringer explains the vinyl window manufacturing process to Geometry in Construction students.
Greg Ringer, owner of Ringer Windows, gave students a tour of the window manufacturing facility. They learned about window production from start to finish including measuring, sawing, assembly, welding, prepping, and glazing. Students even welded window frames using the 4-point welder guided by master window maker, Lupe. Lastly, the group observed team members Mike and Ernest performing window assembly, glazing, and screening.
Next Came Window Installation & Light Transmission Through Glass
Hendrickson High School students learn the science of Low-E double-pane windows.
Students saw a new construction window installation demonstration by master installer, Jake Bly. This included proper installation techniques using the nail flange, and vapor barrier adhesion to provide a watertight fit. They also helped measure UV, visible, and IR light through various low-e glass types with Georgia Torok, Marketing Manager. In doing so, the students learned how Low-E 366 glass filters out harmful UV light and unwanted heat.
Last was a Demonstration of Window Energy Efficiency
A powerful demonstration of the outstanding energy efficiency of Ringer Windows was the final lesson for Hendrickson students. This was performed by measuring BTU’s coming through a window from a heat lamp representing the sun. The visible reduction in energy transmission through the glass was very convincing. Lastly, quickly freezing the outside window surface confirmed the insulating effectiveness of double-pane, argon-filled Ringer Windows.
Ringer Windows Donates to Student Home Project
Hendrickson High School Geometry in Construction classes are building a Tumbleweed Tiny House Company Elm Home this school year. Students will install eight Ringer Windows donated for the three room with loft structure. Fortunately, the window installation demonstration on the tour offered techniques to help them install the windows in their home. Upon completion, the house will be sold to raise funds for materials for a home to be built by next year’s Geometry in Construction class. This class helps students apply geometry to construction and gives them skills for real world home building and remodeling.
